blocked! access forbidden....

If this is a free, open, and democratic country, why can't I access my blog? I asked myself this question last week, when my ISP blocked blogger. Today they are blocking www.registan.net
If you can access registan.net, it's a great site with all kinds of stuff about Central Asia. Now, what does Mongolia have against registan.net?? Probably nothing. I doubt it's deliberately blocked. My server might run off a Chinese server, and I'm sure the Chinese government has a problem with registan.net. If this is the case, it's unfortunate that I am being subjected to censorship.

I don't know what it is, I can get to your blog just fine.

Now, as for Registan, I'm getting a 403Forbidden error. That actually does not mean the IP is blocked, it just means that the server is being repaired or something and the server admin has shut off access to that particular part for the duration.

At least, I think that's how it works. If you're not getting that error though, I don't know what's up.

It could be...but I love conspiracy! When I piggy back on whose ever wireless I'm using now, I can access everything, except registan: It tells me that "Access is forbidden on this sever" hmmm....case unsolved.

I thought at the airport it was spelt "CHINGGIS", even though I thought in MGL Cyrillic it was "Chingis" (for whatever reason). Wikipedia confirms this.

Bob, I don't know how to spell it anymore. I've seen: Chingis, Chinngis, Chinggis... let's not forget Ghengis and Genghis too! I use Chinngis or Chingis generally and in Cyrillic it is Chingis.

Funny, Wikipedia says a Persian historian says Chinngggiss had red hair through a Kyrgyz grandfather, who himself had green/blue eyes. My immediate reaction was this explains why Gala dyes their hair red in the Chinii Zurag video.

Hi Ulaana,
I think Chingis is a more "modern" (or Cyrillic) way to spell it, but Chinggis is originally from uigurjin(the old mongolian language), where we write 2 G-s
btw, Ghengis and Genghis are given by western people i guess :)

Yeah, Genghis and Ghengis are western. I didn't know that about hoochen bitcheg. I guess I'm gonna take a stand and use Chingis from now on.

Oh, Bob, there are lots of blue eyed and light haired Mongols. I know a few Kazakh's with read hair too. I suppose it's possible that Chingis had a Kyrgyz grandpa. The origin of the Kygryz people is often debated. One possibility is that they came from the Lake Baikal region, not far from here.

You can get access to the Registan.net in Central Asian countries. Perhaps, you just faced a technical problem.

Anonymous:I just tried it again and got a 403 forbidden. I'm guessing you tried from whatever Central Asian country you live in and it worked? Either way, I can't get to it on this server from Mongolia
